I Can’t Hear You, So Kiss Me Now
Review & images by Karla Pacheco
Pierce the Veil is back with a new single, a new album, and a tour to kick off a truly rockin’ summer.
It’s been exactly one (1) month since Pierce The Veil released their newest single, “Kiss Me Now,” leading up to the release of their latest album, “The Jaws of Life.”
Although it is only featured in the deluxe edition of the album, it is not one you should be sleeping on. This is the kind of track that you can have on repeat all day and not get tired of. There’s something new to focus on each listen, whether it’s the heart wrenching harmonies, the caption-worthy lyrics, or the unexpected time signature change! If you’re like me, you’ll loop that part just to hear the transition again.
The song hypes you up with ambient sound, like you’re in a crowd quieting down as lights go down while you’re waiting for the curtains to open up on the show of a lifetime (and not only because there is a literal curtain drop). You’re then met with slightly restrained vocals and staccato beats that tease you into the familiarly aggressive yet melodic guitar we all know and love.

Kiss Me Now is a perfect metaphor for Pierce The Veil’s performance at the I Can’t Hear You Tour.
I had the highest honor and privilege of covering the very first show at the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, NC. The energy was electric from the very first note of their walk-on anthem, “El Rey” by Vicente Fernandez to the final cheer after “King For A Day” (featuring the one and only Kellin Quinn - that’s right, Sleeping With Sirens is also on the ticket!)
I won’t give y’all too many spoilers, so you can experience this show with the shock and awe it deserves. I will tell you, however, they never have and never will miss! Their music stands the test of time, and the audience reflects that. The crowd was a wholesome blend of baby scene queens and hardcore elder emos. Although Pierce The Veil has an established presence in the rock scene, it felt like witnessing the start of something beautiful. It was the energy of opening night and the electric feel of homecoming all at once. They played songs from every era of their catalog, some for the first time in over a decade! Fine, a few more spoilers… this included “I’d Rather Die Than Be Famous” (oops), “Wonderless,” and “Today I Saw The Whole World.” Naturally, the screams I scrumpt were tangible and rivaled in volume those of even Vic Fuentes himself.
Don’t worry, though. They play most (if not all) of the fan favorites, so there are plenty of moments for top-of-your-lungs scream-alongs and tear-filled shaky FaceTime calls to your old best friend. It’s the perfect excuse to dig up your teenage playlist and revisit the songs you used to blast just to feel something more. For the moment, you can feel like you did the first time you heard those records all over again. The same way “Kiss Me Now” is a don’t-skip song, the “I Can’t Hear You” Tour is a can’t skip show!
